Journal entry 2

Wow… I couldn't’t believe what I was actually doing. The feeling felt incredible. The lights gleamed down on my face as I stood in the center of the stage. Audience showed there excitement on their faces as our director spoke to get there attention for our premiere of our play. I wasn’t quite nervous because I have done this before. I was overwhelmed about how all this turned out. It turned out to be an outstanding performance. We have spent so many weeks practicing and all of the rehearsals had boiled down to this point. The play had begun. Smoothly, the words began to flow right out of our mouths as if we had been acting for a long time. Before we knew it, 45 minutes went by so fast. We bowed to the audience as they cheered us on. The play went well from my point of view. We all did our best. I could tell the audience enjoyed the play also. When Tj (who played Brutus) and Marlinette (who played Brutus’s wife Portia), were doing their scene and Marlinette said “Should I bear my patience to know my husband’s secret?” The audience had this expression on their face as if they could actually feel what Marlinette was saying to Tj. At the end of the scene the audience cheered loudly. The audience had felt her eagerness to know her husband’s secrets. Their reactions and facial expressions were a sign that they were really enjoying the play.
The play had a lot to do with all the problems that were going on in the world today. In the play they killed Caesar for the good of Rome. So do you think Saddam Hussein should have been killed? Do you think this is the right way to go about Freedom in countries? In my opinion I don’t think they should kill people for the freedom of countries. How is that solving anything? Why don’t they just re-elect their ruler? By doing so, there country would be led by some one who they think will be honorable to their country. This play has been a great experience for me and I would love to do it again.

Journal 1

It has been two weeks since we have been viewing the Shakespeare play called “Julius Caesar”. We watched the two movies which were one modern and the other one in roman times. These two films were very different. The modern film we watched was a TV series called “Rome”. The film was more drastic and adventurous while the other film was hard to understand because of the language that was being spoken and how it was filmed in gray and white, which pretty much made it boring it, had that old feeling to it. But it was good watching both films because the more we previewed each film it interpreted what Julius Caesar was about.

The 1st half of the class we each got a chance to read out lines from the play not knowing if the character we were analyzing was the person we would be in the play. It took us a couple of days to see which student in the class was right for the character in the play.

In the play I am cast as Calphurnia, who is Caesar’s wife. Calphurnia is pretty much this high class women who adores Caesar and loves the respect that is given to her husband from the community. I am very excited to cast as Calphurnia. You would really get to see more of this woman when you view the play. I am very happy with playing this part. I can’t say that I cannot relate my life to Calphurnia but, under some circumstances I can. For example, she is a woman that feels as if know one would ever be on the same level she is on. And that’s the way I feel. Another thing I could say is I could put myself in the mode and set my soul on free and doing the best I can using my talents that I am blessed with.

The 2nd half of the class we played an activity called “Fallen”. This activity was for us as students to build on the trust in the classroom. We are all going to be around each other for a long time and we need to be comfortable performing around each other so we did that activity to build up our trust in one another. The activity procedures were, each student had to walk around the class room in a fast pace looking at every one going all sorts of directions but staying in a circle. Then one person in the group would say “fallen” and then we all would have run or walk up to the person and support them with our strength so that way their bodies won’t be slamming down on to the floor. Each person got a chance to do this. In a way I think this activity did help us because it showed how we all came together and supported this one person and that we obviously had some kind of trust for one another. If trust and being comfortable around each other would help us in the rehearsals, then definitely on stage we will be “masters”.

I am looking forward to the wonderful premiere of our production of Julius Caesar and experiencing many things. There’s a lot to come so Stay Tuned!!
